CT Findings of Chest Wall Tuberculosis
Lee Chang-Hee

Park Jeong-Hee
Abstract
Chest wall tuberculosis is an empyema necessitates that is a complication of a chronic pleural empyema. It is an uncommon manifestation of musculoskeletal tuberculosis, seen in less than 2% of cases, and usually results from hematogeneous spread or direct extension of underlying pleural or pulmonary parenchymal disease. The CT findings of chest wall tuberculosis have been previously reported, but rare.
We reviewed the CT findings of eight patients with pathologically proven chest wall tuberculosis. All patients had the soft tissue mass with central low density (100%). The other significant findings were parenchymal lung opacity (75%), peripheral rim enhancement (50%), and pleural thickening (38%). The calcification in the mass or rib destruction was not demonstrated in our study.
In conclusion, CT is an effective modality for evaluation of chest wall tuberculosis.
